Students are required to take a minimum of nine (9) Africana Studies approved courses. The four required courses are: AFS 100, Introduction to Africana Studies, AFS 200 Theory and Methods; AFS 211 The Black Experience, and AFS 400 Capstone Seminar in Africana Studies. In addition, five (5) upper electives, selected from an approved list of courses and from, at least, two disciplines in the humanities and social sciences are required to complete the major.
A minimum of five approved courses selected from at least two academic disciplines including AFS 100 and AFS 211. To satisfy the requirements for the minor, three upper-level electives chosen from an Africana Studies approved list of courses in humanities and social science must be completed.
