Exploring links between memory, history, and identity, Dr. Wilson-Fall’s research focuses on narratives of African American families that present stories of ancestors from Madagascar. ¬†Can these narratives be verified by the archives?¬† Dr. Wilson-Fall will discuss some of the narratives and the implications of these claims of ethnic diversity and national origin for American studies and Africana studies. ¬†Historically, stories of particular African ethnic backgrounds are generally perceived of as rare or non-existent among African Americans.
